Today, Scandinavian Airlines launches its new direct route from Copenhagen to Nuuk, re-establishing a connection that was last flown more than two decades ago. The new service strengthens ties between Greenland and the world, while reinforcing Copenhagen’s role as the leading international hub for Scandinavia.
Greenland, recently named one of National Geographic’s “Best of the World” destinations for 2025, is quickly emerging as a top choice for travelers seeking immersive, nature-rich experiences. For SAS, the route adds a unique Arctic destination to its network—offering customers rare access to one of the world’s most pristine and culturally rich regions.
The launch coincides with the opening of Nuuk’s new international airport and is part of SAS’ broader strategy to build meaningful, long-term connectivity across the North Atlantic and beyond. The route will operate three times weekly during the summer season and has been developed in close coordination with Greenlandic partners, including Air Greenland.
“This route reflects our broader ambition: to be a resilient, adaptable, and collaborative airline for the future,” says Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS.“Whether traveling for family, work, or discovery, our role is to enable purposeful journeys, with respect and responsibility. And as the most punctual airline in the world, we are proud to bring that reliability to a route as meaningful as this one.”
As SAS evolves into a future-focused premium airline, Copenhagen’s role as a global hub is key, enhancing connectivity and supporting mobility, exchange, and growth across Scandinavia and beyond.
The launch reflects SAS’ ongoing focus on long-term growth and connectivity. Strategic partnerships, including with SkyTeam and Air France-KLM, have expanded global reach, while continued investment in customer experience and operational excellence has strengthened SAS’ position.
